MTC returned $5.125M to Mississippi for thousands of unworked prison-guard shifts ('ghost workers')
On 2023-09-18 the Mississippi State Auditor announced that Management & Training Corporation had repaid the state more than $5 million for improperly billing for thousands of prison-guard shifts that were never actually worked at its Mississippi facilities (described as a 'ghost workers' scheme). The payment was reported in March 2024. The finding spanned MTC's Mississippi contracts including East Mississippi, Marshall County, and Wilkinson County.
